  • San Pedro propagation tips:

This cactus is very hardy, can handle temperate weather better than most cactus due to being native to high elevation, though hard frost is to be avoided. As to planting cuttings, the cut on the stem should be dry with a whitish callus layer which takes about ten days. The stems can be planted upright or on their side. Cuttings require warm weather to root, and need soil that drains very well ( 50% organic 50% inorganic) that is packed lightly so roots can breathe, and to prevent rot. After two weeks, water once weekly when hot, and once a month when cold, and only when soil is completely dry. Morning sun with shade during the hottest part of the day is ideal, extremes of heat and cold are to be avoided when cuttings are newly planted. As the cactus becomes more established it becomes sturdier. Once established San Pedro is a rapid grower, up to one and a half feet yearly. Any questions or problems feel free to contact us.
